Three Foundations credentials - one per role - plus a single Professional exam above the Architect track. All four share the same machinery, so the only real variable is the syllabus. The thing to check before anything else is not difficulty but eligibility: registration expects a company email tied to a Claude Partner Network organization.

Nothing in the free catalog is a prerequisite for any exam, and Anthropic's exam guides say plainly that recommended experience is advisory - the credential is awarded on exam performance alone.

Anthropic's own framing sets the audience in one line: "Earn the credential built exclusively for Anthropic Partners." The program validates the skills behind designing, advising, and delivering Claude solutions, across three roles - Associate, Developer, and Architect. If you are not with a partner organization, that sentence is the whole story: the exams are not aimed at you, and the free Academy is. Anthropic's own answer to that on the certifications page is a link: not a partner? apply to become one - the Anthropic Partners program is where the company email that reaches checkout comes from, and joining is free.

The four exams

Foundations is the entry credential for a role: one exam each for Associate, Developer, and Architect. Professional sits above the Architect track and is the only exam that assumes you have already designed and shipped the systems it asks about. Each credential name below links to its own page on the Partner Academy, where that exam's guide, terms, and checkout live.

Choosing between Associate and Developer is not a seniority question - it is whether you build against the API. If your work happens in the chat window, in Cowork, and in documents, Associate is the match. If you write the code that calls Claude, go straight to Developer.

One naming quirk to expect: Pearson VUE's own program page still describes the roles as Practitioner, Architect, and Developer, while the exam guides and credentials use Associate, Developer, and Architect. Same program, older labels.

The exam guides

One guide per exam, published as a PDF. It is the only document that defines a syllabus's domains and their weights, and it is versioned - which makes it the one thing to read before you pay, and the one thing to re-check if you booked months ago.

Recommended experience in a guide is advisory, not a gate. Nothing in it is a prerequisite, and the credential is awarded on exam performance alone.

How the exams work

All four share the same machinery, which makes planning easy.

Eligibility
Open to organizations in the Claude Partner Network. A personal address alone will not reach checkout - see At a glance for the gate and how to clear it.
Buy and book
Through the Anthropic Partner Academy - review the exam guide, accept the terms, check out, then book a slot from the confirmation instructions. Read the current guide before you pay, not after.
Delivery
Pearson VUE - online-proctored from home, or at a physical test center.
Question types
Multiple-choice and multiple-response. Multiple-response items state how many answers to select and are scored all-or-nothing, so a half-right answer earns nothing.
Scoring
Scaled 100 to 1,000, pass at 720, from a formal standard-setting study rather than a fixed percentage of correct answers. The score report breaks down percent correct per domain.
Prerequisites
None. You can sit the Architect exams without the Developer one - that does not make it a good idea, but the door is open.
Renewal
Valid 12 months. Renewing on time is a free, non-proctored assessment; miss the window and you are back to a full paid attempt. Passing issues a digital badge through Credly.

Exam day

Pass marks and question formats are above. What actually costs people an attempt is logistics.

Two days before
Run the Pearson VUE system test on the same machine and network you will use. Confirm the name on the booking matches your government ID exactly - a mismatch is a forfeited attempt, not a reschedule.
The room
One desk, cleared. No second monitor, no phone within reach, no notes, no headphones unless the proctor allows them. You will be asked to pan the camera around the room before the timer starts, so tidy it beforehand rather than on the clock.
The clock
120 minutes. Join 15 to 30 minutes early - check-in and the room scan happen before the exam clock starts, but a late arrival can void the booking.
Answering
Flag and move on rather than stalling, and never leave a blank: there is no penalty for a wrong answer, and multiple-response items are all-or-nothing anyway.
After you pass
Keep the score report. Its per-domain breakdown is the study plan for the next credential up, or for a retake. Then put the expiry date in your calendar the day you pass.

How to prepare
